I am throwing things back to this past fall! Not only is it the best season of the year but my best friend’s birthday and my birthday fall within six weeks of each other!
We have been bestfriends for more years than I can count! We lived down the street from each other and spent so much time together growing up she’s basically my sissy!! Her name’s Kristen and she is a gem and a butt kickin’ boss lady moving her way up in the fashion industry!
She lives in Philadelphia, PA and I live in Cherry Hill, NJ only about 15 minutes from each other! We decided this year since we can’t spend our birthdays together on their exact days we would celebrate us by having a “Boujee Birthday Brunch”!
The location: Talula’s Garden, Washington Square, Philadelphia, PA
Weather: Waaay briskier than I dressed for
Attire: Boujee, duh
Attitude: EXCITED STOKED CAN NOT WAIT
We both walked into the wrong side of the restaurant, which is basically a coffee shop. We had a nice little giggle once we realized that! And a super big hug like no time had passed.
I checked the menu before going just to make sure I could find something I could eat (#foodallergyproblems) and let’s just say the menu did not disappoint! Now my excitement levels were sky high!
We were seated at the cutest table on a higher landing with a view of the entire restaurant. Everything was so chic and eclectic; I loved every bit of it. We got our menus and started gib-gabbing away not even realizing we needed to look at the menus!
But we got to it and made our decisions for appetizer, meal and drink! We started with the warm chai spiced donuts and oh my goodness they were as delicious as they sound. Warm, buttery, in chai tea latte syrup with fresh whipped cream. Honestly, I wanted to lick the syrup off the plate and put that whipped cream on everything I eat. Insanely delicious!
Kristen ordered a mimosa, the perfect brunch cocktail! I ordered an unfiltered pumpkin hard apple cider. It was called Downeast and I’ve never tasted anything like it and I’m on the hunt to find it in any liquor store nearby. I can only describe it pumpkin spice times a million zillion with amazing cinnamon and nutmeg flavors. So awesome.
For my meal, I got the Kennett Mushroom Omelet. I love mushrooms so putting them in an omelet makes them even better. Fun fact: when I was in college, I worked at a CVS Pharmacy outside of Kennett Square, Pennsylvania which is known for their delicious mushrooms. Kristen ordered the crab benedict which sounded delicious!
When our meals came out, they were plated beautifully!! Best part: POTATOES!!!! Each of our brunches came with crispy potatoes and oh boy oh boy were they something I could dream of for days. Seriously, we devoured our entire plates!
It was such a great meal and even better company. We strolled around the park across the street just chatting away still catching up. I love spending time with Kristen especially because it feels like being around my family. Kristen hugs are genuine hugs with lots of love behind them.
Now I’ve been introduced to a Stephen Starr restaurant I want to try them all!! I can not recommend Talula’s Garden enough to people wanting an amazing brunch meal!!
Til the next brunch!!
Love always,
Z
P.S. Happy Galentine’s Day Krissy and all my gal pals!!!
P.P.S. Happy Valentine’s Day Michael!
