I know I have a shopping problem but I only love to buy things if they are on sale or clearance! But I had no idea there is a psychological disorder around shopping! It is called Compulsive Buying Disorder. Compulsive Buying is the uncontrollable desire to shop which leads to spending large amounts of money and time on the activity. Usually people who have Compulsive Buying Disorder relate shopping with relieving a negative emotion, so if you’re stressed you shop to get the “high” you desire. About 6% of Americans deal with this disorder which means they have poor relationships with finances.
You can break down the disorder into four parts; anticipation, preparation, shopping, and spending. The anticipation begins when the person thinks about the act of shopping. Next they prepare themselves on what they want to buy especially if there is some type of discount. They then do the shopping and get the “high”. And lastly, they spend the money and sometimes feel remorseful knowing they may have spent money they did not need to. Most people who develop compulsive Buying Disorder have hoarding issues but it does not go the other way around. Hoarders just want to acquire items that have sentimental value or are going to be useful in any situation. Compulsive buyers have no connection to the items rather they have a higher affinity to the act of shopping itself.
There is no “cure” to this as it is a mental illness however therapy is one of the best remedies to learning how to live with Compulsive Buying Disorder.
Okay cool the science part is fun and all but what I really want to tell you guys about is my Loft Style Party fromT this morning!!
I was contacted by the manager, Sheree, at Loft in the Cherry Hill Mall asking if I’d be interested in doing a style party with them! Of course, I said yes!! We set a date and I was so excited!!
Obviously, I needed new Loft clothes for the event which I got a great deal on!! I promoted the event as much as I could!! We had a great turnout too! 9 people total, one of which is one of my followers !! (not my family or close friends) I felt like a mini celebrity!!
I showed up and we had the store all to ourselves for two hours!!! Sheree and the ladies at Loft were great!! They asked me to pick some pieces that I loved to put together on a rack and had me start trying on pieces! They had such a cute backdrop set up so the pictures are super cute!!
One of their ladies, Aubree, is a side hustle baker who made sugar cookies for the event! They were in the shape of dresses and others were glittery with Loft written on them! They were insanely delicious!! Check her out for your next event!!
There was a great sale today so everyone left with something they loved! I could not stop smiling all morning knowing how sweet the people came were and that they came out to support me!! I am forever grateful for all of them!!
I can’t wait to host another event with them!!
Have a great Sunday!!
Xox,
Z
