My Make Up Routine

August 10, 2019

After the networking event last week, I got so many requests to tell you all about my makeup routine!! Especially my lipsticks!

Honestly, I got really obsessed with doing makeup when I was in college going to semi-formals almost every semester. So why not try new looks all the time?!

But let me tell you…in my teenage years, I was repetitive as heck! I did the same makeup everyday for 4+ years. It consisted of concealer, light and dark purple eyeshadow, eyeliner halfway on top and halfway on bottom and mascara. And this was everyday without hesitation. What was I thinking?! I know what I was thinking, I had read in Seventeen Magazine that people with brown eyes should wear purple tones since they make your eyes POP! I’m so glad I grew out of that phase! You should be thankful too HAHA!

Now I have a better handle on what looks best on me and I’ll take you through it step by step! Everything will be linked so you can go directly to the product! I’m no professional but I definitely enjoy how I do my makeup.

I try to always wash my face before and after! You can read all about how I take care of my skin in my previous blog post!

So starting with a fresh canvas is a huge plus!!

Oh, one last thing, I am not a makeup snob…I try to use good products with clean ingredients but sometimes I don’t. Life goes on. Plus I don’t wear makeup everyday since I work in a lab. I usually stick to once a week if that.

Step 1: Foundation
I bounce between Maybelline’s Dream BB Fresh and Lancome’s Bienfait Teinte Beauty Balm. Both are BB creams with SPF and Antioxidants. I wear the shade 120 Medium Sheer Tint for Maybelline and 3 Naturel in Lancome. For a more everyday look, I would use Maybelline and for nights out I would go with the Lancome that has higher more long lasting coverage. I use a knock-off beauty blender from CVS. You can get a pack of like 30 for $5 while ONE name brand beauty blender is $5. Ya girl is a bargain hunter and the 30 pack works just the same. I put drops of foundation on my forehead, cheeks, and chin then follow up with the knock-off  beauty blender to smooth it out all the way to my hair line and down my neck! Don’t forget your eyelids also friends!!

Step 2: Eyeshadow
I keep it very simple for eyeshadow. I have three palettes I bounce between all of which are from Urban Decay. I have the Original Naked Palette, the Smoky Palette, and the Red Heat Palette. Depending on the situation I layer the eyeshadows starting light and going dark. I ALWAYS put some of the light color in the corner of my eyes to help brighten them. My go to is definitely a gold bronze look using the Original Naked Palette. The eyeshadow stays quite long for me since I have a foundation on as a base on my eyelids.

Step 3: Concealer
I learned from many many youtube videos that you put concealer on in the shape of an upside down triangle AKA a slice of pizza lol.  I use Covergirl’s Ready Set Gorgeous concealer in shade light. I use the same concealer to cover up my pimples, scars, and any other imperfections I don’t love.

Step 4: Setting Powder
Pretty quick and easy step. I use Covergirl Clean shade Medium Light and apply powder all over my face. Its sheer so it’s just there to hold all the previous makeup done in place.

Step 5: “Bronzer”/Contouring
I only found out about contouring in the last few years. I use an Elf Golden powder and apply it underneath my cheekbone up to my ear, along my hairline, and along my jawline. I don’t go crazy, just enough to get a little shadow.

Step 6: Blush
I follow up with Milani Luminoso Baked Powder Blush. I prefer powder blush because it is less pigmented so you don’t look like a clown. That’s a harsh way to put it but its the truth.

Step 7: Highlighter
My favorite part is highlighter. I feel like a dang shining star when I wear it. I use Lancome’s Dual Finish Highlighter in Radiant Rose Gold. I brush it on top of my cheekbone, down my nose, and on my cupids bow above my lip.

Step 8: Eyeliner
Hands down these next three steps really just make your face POP! I use two eyeliners. One for my waterline and one for the top. For the waterline, I use Covergirl’s Perfect Point Plus in Black Onyx. I put it along my upper waterline (underneath my eyelashes) to sharpen the look. For above my water line along my eyelashes on my eyelid skin, I use Maybelline’s Eye Studio Precise All Day Liquid Eyeliner. In really tiny strokes, I go along my lashline to make a nice straight line. If I’m feeling extra spicy, I add a little wing to it.

Step 9: Mascara
I use a combination of three different ones. I start with L’oreal’s Voluminous Base Eyelash primer. I put one coat on my lashes and right before it’s dry I put on Too Faced’s Better Than Sex Mascara. Do the other side. Then follow up on both sides with Rimmel London’s Scandal Eyes Mascara. On the bottom lashes I only do the Better Than Sex Mascara. Also, I do multiple coats from underneath then one on top of the lashes. My lashes look freaking awesome after this combo so I’ll definitely be sticking with it.

Step 10: Lip Liner and Lipstick
Last up and another favorite, lipstick!! My absolute number one is a red lip. It makes me feel like a bada$$. The one I got so many questions about is my most recent one from the networking event. That specific one was Mary Jo K by Kylie. However, in my cart now is the dupe for it called Creeper from Colourpop. I do have other Kylie lip kits but the red is my favorite. I do own some other Covergirl lipsticks and lip stains which I enjoy for the times when I won’t eat or drink too much. For lip liner, I use whatever Kylie Lip Kit one I have or whatever is on sale at CVS. It’s so important to put lip liner on under your lipstick so it stays on better.

Step 11: Pep Talk
You should always finish putting makeup on and remind yourself that you are a beautiful woman. It’s an easy confidence boost that just gives you the edge you need to kick butt during the day. WE ARE BEAUTIFUL.

It looks like a lot but realistically I’ve gotten down to about 15/20 minutes. That really isn’t a lot of time if you ask me to get done up when I want to wear makeup considering I hardly wear it daily. But Michael knows if I’m putting on makeup he needs to give me plenty of time LOL.

If you ever have any questions, ask me!! I want to help!!

Xoxo,
Z
