Designer Goods on a Budget

January 9, 2019

Let’s be honest, designer goods are very expensive. And yes you do pay for quality most of the time but they still cost a pretty penny. So how do I do it? I like to call it being savvy and smart with money.

When I was 16, my mom’s mentee bought her very first Louis Vuitton and had it shipped to our house and let us open the package and let me tell you…ever since I laid my eyes on it’s beauty I’ve been obsessed. All I ever wanted was a Louis of my own.

So…for my one year work anniversary I decided that I would treat myself within reason. I started doing my research and looking for the best deal I could find. I wasn’t sure whether that would be on eBay or a different consignment-like website. I stumbled upon a group on Facebook strictly to buy and sell used Louis Vuitton bags. I was stoked!

Decision time…which bag was I going to get for my first one? There were so many to choose from!! Well I talked with the administrator of the Facebook group and asked if he had any Speedy 35s available. Sadly, he had none but he did have a Speedy 40 and it was $160. Who could pass up that?! I agreed, paid him, and my beautiful bag was on its way. I found out that it was a bag from the 1970s so the serial number usually used to identify a real Louis Vuitton from a fake was completely different than the modern ones. Nonetheless I trusted the seller seeing as though he was the person who set the group up.

Me, my boo, and my speedy 40!!

My bag arrived and it was immaculate!! For being a 40+ year old bag it looked like it was just purchased from a store the day before. It was truly beautiful and I was so proud of myself for finally achieving that purchase.

Thus began the obsession shared by my mother and I of searching for Louis Vuitton bags on this website. My mother eventually bought a Speedy 35 and Delightful MM from the group and loved it. I bought a Keepall Bandouliere 55 and a vintage Monceau!!!! We were loving it but both of us wanted the coveted dream bag Neverfull MM.

I found mine and it was a steal through the Facebook group. For $500 I got a 2011 Neverfull MM in the DE print. My mom found hers shortly after, a 2016 Monogram Neverfull MM.

We both are done and set on bags but we loved our experience through the Facebook group. I do have hopes that someday I can walk into a Louis Vuitton store and buy one without it being used.  A girl can only dream!!

I will say, if you do your research you can find beautiful bags at your local consignment shops. But make sure you can read the serial number and know your information before purchasing anything.

Ebay has good products but again do your research. Check their reviews, the serial number, and the condition the bag is in. Don’t trust everything so if you do worry about the authenticity of it, you can always reach out to a company who strictly does authenticity checks to verify you are buying an authentic Louis. And of course there is The Real Real now.  They only sell authenticated products and my mom has bought many Tiffany, Tag and Tumi products from them.

If you have any questions, I’d be happy to help!!! Just shoot them my way!!

Love always,
Z
