Science of Chiropractic Medicine

February 3, 2020

I got into a car accident on September 25, 2019 at 5:45 AM on my way to work. I was hit by a drunk driver and the entire situation was deemed to be his fault. Immediately after the accident I went to Patient First where I had my original X-Rays that were all negative, thank goodness. But the coming week I started having extreme pain in my neck and left shoulder. It was absolutely unbearable. So I started to call around to local orthopedics and let me tell you, it was so difficult to find someone who would take a motor vehicle accident patient. That was until I found Cassara Chiropractic. I had never been to a chiropractor but they were so nice to take my case.  I was committed to getting better and they have supported me this entire time.

I wanted/needed to learn more about how chiropractic medicine worked which brings us here for this #ScienceSunday. What do they do? What education do they need? How do they determine what a patient needs? Let’s explore it all.

Chiropractic medicine focuses on how the bones, muscles, and nerves interact and the relationship among them. It is considered an alternative medicine. They are focused mostly on the spinal column as they believe manipulation of the spine can alter every part of our health.

To become a chiropractor, one must achieve their doctor of chiropractic degree that takes 4 years, pass the national board exam, and obtain state licensure. Sometimes they will need to take a statewide exam that focuses on healthcare policy. They must undergo similar clinic hours to that of physical therapists so about 4,500 hours.

Dr. Cassara performed a patient history interview, a physical exam, and then he prescribed some diagnostic testing. He combined all this information to figure out that I have a bulge at my C5-C6. He recommended further chiropractic treatment as well as physical therapy. The combination of the two has been so beneficial.

Everytime I go to the office, I start by using a posture pump to help to try and fix my posture.

That is followed up by the exam with Doc. He manipulates my back while I am on my stomach, then each side followed by lying on my back. He puts emphasis on my shoulder towards the end. I always feel so relaxed after I leave.

I know chiropractors are controversial amongst the population but as always I say to do what makes you feel better. It’s your health so you can choose what you think is best.

If you are in the South Jersey area, I HIGHLY recommend Cassara Chiropractic. They are doing a social media/in person special where you have the opportunity to win prizes! And let my gals Felecia, Colleen, and Morgan know I sent you to them!! They will take amazing care of you!!

Hope this gives you a little insight into the chiropractic medicine practice!
